Travel websites

There is a lot to consider when it comes to travel website. Where to go, what to do, where to stay, and many other questions loom before a booking is even made. Now of course only you can answer the first question, but the other ones can be left up to consideration. For example, how much money do you have to travel with?

Many people don’t understand that travel expenses usually make up a bulk of the entire vacation. However, there is a way to travel in style without breaking the bank. The way to do this is by checking out travel packages on select travel sites and finding one that fits your needs.

But there may be a drawback

The catch to a lot of these travel packages, which are oftentimes a great deal, is that concessions may need to be made. Many travel sites work with local hotels to try to expand the scope of tourism. So instead of staying in the city that you want, you may be staying in the next city over.

This is the give and take when it comes to figuring out where to travel. On one hand, you get a huge discount on the price and the ease of an all-inclusive package, but on the other, there may be limitations on where and when you are able to stay. Either way, finding out who to travel with is the best way to save money while also visiting your ideal travel destination.

Which travel site to choose

When it comes to choosing a travel site, there is a lot to consider. The first thing to consider, for most, is price. Finding a hotel in the desired destination for the right price is the first step in planning your trip. Although most sites are similar in price, make sure to check as many as possible in order to find the right one.

Secondly, check for availability. Not all sites have the same destinations, nor do they sponsor the same hotels. If you are familiar with the many hotels, this step should be pretty easy. However, if you are not familiar with all of the different hotels sponsored by the site, you may need to do some further research.

To be determined

Once you determine which is the best choice based on the above criteria, make sure to check online reviews for each site that you are considering. Sites like Yelp allow users to post reviews based on their experience with the site in question. And while these sites can be misleading at times, it gives you a good idea of what to expect.

Travel sites can be tricky and sometimes things get messed up. What is is important is finding a site with good reviews that offer the hotel you want at the price you want. At the end of the day, most of the sites are pretty similar, Finding the right one means doing your homework and being picky when it comes to your final choice.

A cultural divide

Having grown up in the United States, there was much about Japanese culture that I did not get, despite my family being from there. It was difficult to imagine a culture so much different than my own while still having ties to it. So the first time I visited my parent’s native island of Shikoku, it became clear how the cultural diversity played into my life.

In the US, there is a lot of focus on the cultural aspect of work hard play hard. People in the country commonly subscribe to the narrative of if you work hard, you can earn enough money to play hard. In Japan, this is also a common mentality, but with nuance.

Comparing and contrasting

In some ways, the culture in the US and the culture in Shikoku are very similar. People are humble, hardworking, and know how to enjoy their free time. It is almost as if the two cultures had enough overlap that they developed the same ideals. Perhaps the most stunning part of visiting Shikoku was noticing how people spent their free time.

Much like in America, people, above all, enjoyed spending time with their families. This was the most common source of recreation in the country, which I noticed was similar to how people in the United States behaved. Pretty much everything was different, but there was this one aspect that made me feel right at home. That and the fact that both cultures value hard work and dedication.

Travel in Japan

In some ways, Shikoku is the forgotten Island of Japan. When people think about Japan, they think about the large cities like Tokyo, Osaka, and so on. But what they don’t know is that there is a rich history on the smallest and least populated island of the country. One that cannot be read about in textbooks or on television, but one that must been seen to believe.

Fishing, farming, and other rural disciplines are an integral part of the way Japan came up into the modern world and how it has made its name in the world as a cultural and technologically based epicenter that it is. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither was Japan.

Back to basics

What makes Shikoku so appealing to tourists is the same thing that makes the rural United States appealing to tourists. People often have ideas in their mind regarding the culture of the country, and many people know nothing about its roots.

Sure, we are not all history majors, and people pick and choose what to believe about countries, but this is no excuse to not consider that they are just as important. For many years, I have been an advocate of Shikoku and its tourism destination.

People should realize that the rural locations of these large and powerful countries are just as important as the large and powerful cities. And the only way to truly appreciate the beautiful roots of the country is to visit its less inhabited islands.

Service with a smile

In today’s world of hospitality, it is safe to say that the differences in the way we experience hotels is much different than it was in the past. The main contributor to this phenomenon is the Internet, which has changed the way in which we live on virtually every front. Hotels, a staple in travel since their existence, is no exception.

Think of the last time you cracked a travel catalog before booking a vacation. There was a time when people looking to vacation would have to open a book, yes, an actual book in order to find the right hotel for the right price. Today, everything is done digitally, and it is easier than ever to find the right hotel.

But there’s a catch

The catch is that now that you have so many competing sites in the realm of hotel booking, that perhaps it becomes less about the hotels and more about how effective the site is at advertising. Anytime you are deal with Internet advertising, you have to wonder whether the consumer is the beneficiary or if the business is.

In order to navigate this difficult hotel selection, it is important to understand that online reviews are not the only things that should be considered. If possible, do the archaic task of actually calling hotels or reading travel brochures in order to find which hotel is best for you and your family. At the end of the day, the Internet is an important part of our lives, but there is more to the story.

The season is finally here

The long winter (at least where I’m from) has finally passed and given way to a beautiful spring, or as I like to call it, travel season. Now is the time to take your hard earned money from a long winter of working and go out and have fun! When choosing where to go and what to do, one of the first things should be choosing which hotel to sleep in.

To some, the hotel doesn’t matter. All they want is a roof over their head, some clean sheets, and maybe a television to watch if they get bored. But so much more goes into finding the right hotel than that.

Maximizing your stay

Now of course the first thing people look at when it comes to staying in hotels is price. Price can dictate how luxurious a hotel is, but it is not always the sole indicator of quality. Online reviews can help, but they are not always accurate, and sifting through bad reviews may be necessary.

From my experience, the best hotels are the ones that have a 3 or 3.5 star rating on sites. Why? Because these are the hotels that virtually anyone can afford, and even with the negative reviews, shows an overall positive experience.

Conclusion

3 star hotels are the best indicator of balancing price and quality. And while this may seem like setting the bar low, the fact is that many hotels with 5 star reviews are either super expensive and only a select few people could afford to review them at all.
